Due to a hectic work schedule and a little general life-related craziness, I inadvertently took the month of February off from writing. Instead, I spent the month trying to work on organizing the stuff I purchased over the winter months, packaging up cards from my busiest-yet month of Sportlots sales, and generally trying to decompress.
One of those Sportlots sales left me with two thoughts: first, whether I should have listed the trio of sold cards for more than the 18-cent minimum since older cards with interesting photos seem to sell well; and second, wondering if there is any chance that personality will return to sports cards with the shaking up of the industry over the next few years.
The three-card sale in question was a trio of mid-1990s California Angels. Sure, its actually only two Angels since Rex Hudler was the subject of two of the cards, but still…
when was the last time that a cow was being milked on a card? Would Getty Images supply a photo of a player getting intimate with a pole? How about a Hall of Really Good pitcher showing some serious bat guitar face?
I doubt it will happen, but I really hope some of the goofiness of baseball is shown on the cards that will come out of the Fanatics era. You know, that is if they’re playing baseball by then.
I have all three of those cards, they are awesome!
It was definitely a treat to see them again when I retrieved them from my boxes.
